Two feminist vegans have opened an animal sanctuary in northern New South Wales in a bid to save livestock from slaughter.
Sugarshine FARM (Feminist Animal Rescue Mission) operates from a 3.5 hectare property at Wyrallah near Lismore.
It is owned by Fox Stace and Kelly Nelder who care for 80 free-range animals including cows, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, roosters, ducks, turkeys, cats and dogs.
“There are a lot of beautiful inter-species relationships that go on here and that’s one of my greatest joys waking up at the sanctuary,” Ms Stace said.
“I’ll come out and my cat will be sunning himself next to a chicken, and a baby goat will be laying next to an older sheep. Our ducklings were hatched by chickens. It’s just gorgeous.”
